British TV Poker Contest Falls Foul of Police14 March 2002U.K. -- March 13, 2002 -- As reported by the (U.K) Telegraph: ``Britain's biggest ever poker tournament was called off yesterday after organisers feared it might have been raided by police. ``The Poker Million tournament was to have been shown live on Sky television to 65 countries. ``Three hundred players from around the world, including Britain's Simon `Aces' Trumper, had already paid the £7,000 entry fee. ``The dispute hinges over the wording of the 1968 Gaming Act, which defines a public and private event. It states: `No person shall take part in gaming in any street or other place where the public have access.'..." |
