British Columbia Lottery Places $1.9 Million Order with Scientific Games19 July 2001NEW YORK –(Press Release) --July 19, 2001 -- Scientific Games Corporation (Amex: SGM) announced today that its subsidiary, Scientific Games International (SGI), received an order for 230 STAN terminals and software valued at approximately $1.9 million. The company also announced that it has agreed with the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) to terminate negotiations to conclude a written agreement for the supply of on-line gaming systems and equipment pursuant to a Request for Proposals issued by BCLC on June 28th, 1999. SGI's proposal for the supply of an on-line gaming system and equipment to BCLC in response to the RFP was accepted by BCLC on December 21, 2000, subject to BCLC and SGI negotiating the terms and conditions of a written agreement. Bill Huntley, President of SGI Systems, said, ``BCLC has placed an order to purchase 230 STAN terminals and associated software from SGI. STAN is SGI's latest self-service terminal. SGI, through its Autotote affiliate, helped revolutionize the horseracing industry with its tremendously successful line of self-service machines. Many racing operators do as much as 50% of their sales through these machines. "SGI hopes to bring this same level of success to the lottery industry with the introduction of STAN. We are pleased that BCLC has chosen our technology to fill its self-service terminal needs and we look forward to working closely with them to ensure that this upgrade of their system is a success.'' With the passage of time since the issuance of the RFP and a concern that the finalization of this procurement process no longer serves BCLC's interests, BCLC and SGI have mutually agreed to terminate contract negotiations. With the termination of negotiations, BCLC is re-evaluating its requirements for a new on-line gaming system and equipment at this time. In the event BCLC decides to proceed with a new Request for Proposals for the supply of an on-line gaming system and equipment, SGI will be invited to participate and to submit a proposal in accordance with the terms of the new Request for Proposals. |
