British Columbia Floating Casino Plan Sinks19 February 2003WHITE ROCK, British Columbia – As reported by the Vancouver Sun: "An unnamed entrepreneur's pitch to put a floating casino at the end of White Rock pier has been withdrawn, Mayor Judy Forster said Tuesday. "The new mayor and her council granted the proponent a private meeting Jan. 27, even though the city's official community plan now includes an outright ban on casinos. "Tuesday, after local newspapers reported the casino proposal made at that secret meeting, Forster issued a news release about `a great deal of speculation in the news media over the past little while' about a riverboat-style casino, saying she wanted to set the record straight.
