British Columbia Criticized for Raising Slot Limit

BRITISH COLUMBIA – As reported by the Province: “Richmond's mayor blasted the provincial government yesterday over plans to increase the number of slot machines per casino.

"`I have heard the number of slots pegged at 700 at our Bridgepoint casino,’ said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. `That's more than double the number which used to be permitted (300).’

“…B.C. has quietly lifted the 300-slot limit per casino, without making an announcement.

“The new Bridgepoint casino is to open next year as the Great Canadian chain's flagship.

“…Surrey gaming chairman Gary Tymoschuk said he'd feel comfortable with an extra 150 at the proposed Fraser Downs casino.

“…The Fraser Downs Racetrack casino in Cloverdale is in the early stages of approval, while another facility is tabbed for Langley City…”
