Bridgeport Considers Casino5 July 2001BRIDGEPORT, Connecticut – July 5, 2001 –As reported by the (Connecticut) Day: "The prospect of jobs and money has prompted the City Council to consider backing a gambling casino proposed by the Golden Hill Paugussetts. "Bridgeport officials adopted a nonbinding resolution Monday stating their willingness to negotiate with the tribe for construction of a casino. "The resolution is based on several conditions, including federal certification of the Indian tribe's status. "…The city of Shelton has asked the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs to allow its comments on the tribe's application for recognition. City officials cited potential increases in traffic and crime. "Other area officials also have voiced concerns about labor shortages that could result from the opening of a casino…" |
