Breeders' Cup Pick Six Scandal Gets Hollywood Treatment3 March 2003LOS ANGELES – As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: ``Robert Wuhl, the actor and comedian who created and starred in the recently canceled Home Box Office original series "Arli$$," will co-write, direct, and act as executive producer for an HBO original movie about the 2002 Breeders' Cup Ultra Pick Six betting scandal. ``Still untitled, the movie will be based on a series of articles published in the New York Times by Eclipse Award-winning Turf writer Joe Drape. Drape's stories unfold the scheme of three former Drexel University fraternity brothers who were able to change their wagers after October 26 Breeders' Cup races in the pick six had been run. ``Officials from Breeders' Cup Ltd. and the National Thoroughbred Racing Association raised a red flag when three former fraternity brothers from Drexel University were the only winners of the nearly $3-million jackpot. An investigation ensued, resulting in the discovery of multiple flaws in the way pari-mutuel wagering companies were processing multirace wagers from off-track betting facilities…" |
