Brazen Aussie Casino Bandit Jailed for Five Years

AUSTRALIA – As reported by Australian Associated Press: ``A bandit who was videotaped stuffing $136,000 into his jacket during a hold-up of Crown Casino's high-roller room was today jailed for five years.

``Thomas Mangos, 49, was living in a fantasy world when he carried out the armed robbery - his weapon was later found to be a plastic toy, a judge said today.

``County Court Judge Lance Pilgrim described the once hard-working family man's conduct as "surreal" when fixing a non-parole term of three years.

``The court heard that after escaping with the cash in the early hours of August 20 last year, Mangos shaved off his moustache and had his arms tattooed to help him dodge the police and continue to indulge in his gambling habit.

``The once-successful businessman had become a compulsive gambler and had himself lost more than $1 million at the exclusive Mahogany Room - where his crime was recorded on security video.

``Mangos fled from the robbery in a taxi with cash protruding from his clothing and confessed to the driver before leaving the man with a $700 tip…"
