Branson Wants Scratchcard Millionaires28 August 2000UNITED KINGDOM –Aug. 28, 2000 – As reported by The British Times: "Sir Richard Branson is to launch Britain's first £1 million scratchcard as part of his bid to rejuvenate flagging lottery sales. "… Sir Richard is understood to have proposed that players buying the new scratchcard would gamble on the chance of winning one of one hundred places on a live television show. Players would then be eliminated through a series of "challenges" based on luck and skill before the overall winner was presented with a cheque for £1 million live on air. "… At the moment the largest lottery scratchcard prize is £100,000, but the games have been hit by flagging sales.
