Boyd Gaming Sponsors World Record 100-Hour Marathon Reading Effort

LAS VEGAS – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Boyd Gaming Corporation (NYSE: BYD) today announced its opening-day sponsorship of the Henderson District Public Libraries' attempt to break the world record for the longest reading marathon by a team as held in the Guinness Book of World Records. On Monday, June 13, 2005, at 9:00 a.m., a dedicated team of six librarians at the Paseo Verde Library, located at 280 South Green Valley Parkway, will begin their challenge of reading aloud continuously in a literary litany scheduled to last more than 100 hours.

Boyd Gaming is lending support to this linguistic endeavor of epic proportions, helping to launch the marathon reading attempt in grand style as the librarians take their turns reading aloud from a series of selected favorite volumes.

"Boyd Gaming is pleased to assist the Henderson District Public Libraries in their extreme reading efforts to break the Guinness World Record," says Dan Stark, Boyd Gaming's Director of Marketing. "We thought this was a fun, entertaining way of increasing literary awareness not just through the Las Vegas community, but throughout the nation."

During the 100-hour reading marathon the public is encouraged to drop in and listen to "a good book" read aloud and be a part of the world-record festivities. The team of librarians will be keeping a blog with a live webcam, so online visitors can receive updates and listen to the proceedings from homes and offices. If all goes as planned, the librarians will eclipse the current reading marathon record at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 17th.

Library patrons and visitors can help support the record-breaking effort by purchasing Book Tags for $1.00 each at any Henderson Library. Each book tag purchased will be displayed in the libraries during the Guinness World Record attempt. Supporters can also opt to make a tax deductible pledge to lend their encouragement to the effort. All proceeds from the tags and pledges will benefit the Henderson Libraries Outreach programs.
