15 May 2001

LAS VEGAS, Nevada –(Press Release) --May 15, 2001 -- Boyd Gaming Corporation (NYSE: BYD) announced today that it received unanimous approval yesterday for its racing license from the Louisiana State Racing Commission. The Company recently entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the Delta Downs Racetrack near Vinton, Louisiana. The track is an eligible facility under Louisiana law to operate slot machines, and the Company plans to begin casino operations when it receives the appropriate licenses and approvals and completes necessary improvements to the facility.

William S. Boyd, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Boyd Gaming, commented on the licensing, ``The Racing Commission approval is a significant step toward completing the acquisition of Delta Downs. This approval allows us to complete the transaction and begin preparing for our suitability hearing before the Louisiana Gaming Control Board.''

The Company also received its early termination notice under the Hart- Scott-Rodino Act for this transaction on May 8, 2001. The Hart-Scott-Rodino Act requires a pre-merger notification be filed with the Federal Trade Commission.
