Boyd Backs Out of Rhode Island Casino Deal8 July 2002WEST WARWICK, Rhode Island – As reported by the Associated Press: "A Las Vegas gaming company has backed out of a partnership with the Narragansett Indian tribe to build a casino in West Warwick. "…A Narragansett Indian spokesman says the tribe will keep its agreement with West Warwick and is interviewing prospective partners, including Harrah's Entertainment Inc. of Las Vegas, considered Boyd's chief rival in casino development in Rhode Island. "Narragansett spokesman Guy Dufault said the tribe would continue to pay the town to retain its exclusivity deal until it chooses a new financial backer, a decision he said is expected in the next few weeks. "…In April the West Warwick Town Council signed an agreement with Boyd and the tribe, giving the pair exclusive rights to develop a casino in town until the next general election in 2004…" |
