Boxing Match Opponents Sport Matching Tattoos

5 October 2001

ST. JOHN'S, Antigua –(Press Release) -- Oct. 5, 2001 -- In an unprecedented marketing campaign, Angel Manfredy will meet Julio Diaz in Corpus Christi on October 6, 2001. This is the first time that two fighters will square off against one another with the ``backing'' of the same sponsor. Each fighter will display a tattoo bearing the website address: GoldenPalace.com.

Angel Manfredy will once again try to set himself up for a title shot when he takes on the up and coming Julio Diaz in a 12 round International Boxing Federation (IBF) light eliminator on Saturday, October 6, 2001, in a boxing card presented by Top Rank Inc. at the Memorial Coliseum. The winner of the Manfredy (38-5-1, 29 KOs) and Diaz (23-0, 17 KOs) bout takes on the IBF lightweight champion Paul Spadafora late this year or early next. Manfredy is the currently ranked number four and Diaz is number eight by the IBF.

This isn't the first time GoldenPalace.com has left its mark on the boxing community. Just last week, they sponsored Bernard Hopkins, the first undisputed middleweight champion since 1987, who became the first professional boxer to ever advertise on his body. Almost as much attention was paid to the boxer's back as his bruising right-hand punches. Continuing the trend just seemed natural.

Fight enthusiasts are in for a real treat this Saturday, as the bout will be televised on HBO, a pay-cable station owned by AOL Time Warner Inc. Then, as an added bonus, they can watch the rebroadcast of the Hopkins victory. Representatives from the online casino claim they will continue to find new and exciting ways to promote their site.
