Both Sides Gear Up for Orange County Casino Vote4 September 2003PAOLI, Indiana – As reported by the Associated Press: "Both foes and supporters of a proposed casino in southern Indiana's Orange County are continuing their campaigns, even though the planned November referendum is not yet certain. "Opponents are bringing a top official of the Illinois State Crime Commission to town to speak about the crime associated with casinos, while a pro-casino group is raising money for brochures and advertisements. "Voters must approve casino plans in a scheduled Nov. 4 referendum before the idea can move forward. "…A debate planned for today at Paoli High School is expected to include Bob Fuesel, deputy director of the Illinois State Crime Commission, speaking for the Orange County Coalition Against Legalized Gambling. "…Casino supporters have turned down an invitation to participate, said Sheriff Doyle Cornwell, chairman of Citizens for the Future of Orange County…" |
