Borgata and BetMGM to host High-Stakes Poker Championship

1 November 2022

(PRESS RELEASE) -- High-stakes championship poker returns to Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in 2023. Borgata and BetMGM present "The Return: A Borgata Championship Event." Four tournaments will take place within seven days inside the Poker Room and Central Conference Center starting on 2 January 2023.

"The return of championship poker to Borgata is a long time coming," said Vincent Alonge Jr., Borgata's Director of Poker Operations. "Borgata is the premier gaming destination on the East Coast, which includes best-in-class poker tournaments."

Boasting a $5,300 buy-in, the Championship Tournament begins on Wednesday, 4 January, and Thursday, 5 January. The event will feature a guaranteed prize pool of $3,000,000, with players competing for a guaranteed $1,000,000 first-place prize with no payout structure adjustments. The final table will be on Sunday, 8 January.

BetMGM will offer a host of online qualifiers, with Borgata Poker hosting multiple in-person qualifiers leading up to "The Return," including a $540+$60 Big Stack No Limit Hold'Em tournament on Tuesday, 3 January. Players can find details on future online qualifiers on the BetMGM poker platform.

"BetMGM recognizes the strong legacy of tournaments at Borgata and is thrilled to collaborate with the team to bring online qualifiers to 'The Return,'" said Luke Staudenmaier, Director of Poker, BetMGM. "In the upcoming months, we look forward to offering online poker players various ways to qualify for this momentous event which will kick off 2023 with a bang!"

Borgata will host two additional guaranteed events on Friday, 6 January through Sunday, 8 January: a $1,000 Borgata Bounty Event and a $10,000 Super Survivor Event. Tournament room rates are available for players participating in The Return, based on availability.

On 2 January, Borgata will shuffle up and deal for its first-ever Mystery Bounty event with $1,000,000 in guaranteed bounties. Mystery Bounty events allow players to win big by drawing a Mystery Bounty envelope with a top prize of $250,000. Instead of a standard bounty, players draw Mystery Bounties immediately after eliminating another player.

Early tournament registration for the Championship Event and the Mystery Bounty event opens on Thursday, December 1st, through the BetMGM poker app. In-person sign-ups for all events will begin on 1 January inside the Borgata Poker Room. Poker enthusiasts must have an MGM Rewards account to participate in the tournament.
