Bookmaker Releases Odds on Olympic Injuries

UNITED KINGDOM – As reported by the U.K. Times Online: "Perhaps frustrated by the lack of British medal winners to interest patriotic punters, Paddy Power, the Irish bookmakers, opened a market yesterday on the the next injury to be sustained by an Olympic athlete.

"Sarah Price, the British swimmer, gashed her leg after diving on to an underwater camera casing on Monday, but the next injury could be even more horrific. The bookies offer 10-1 that a fencer is impaled by a sword, 33-1 that an archer is forced to retire with an arrow in their eye, and only 11-2 that a steward is hit by a stray hammer, shot or javelin.

"…Paddy Power have already paid out once on the market when Andreas Zehrer, the Austrian equestrian competitor, smashed his head on a log after being thrown from his horse…"
