Bookies Laying Odds on 'Survivor'

LAS VEGAS, Nevada --Jan.9, 2001 -- As reported by the Associated Press: "Who will be the next `Survivor'?

"The Las Vegas sports books are already laying odds.

"The Sahara hotel-casino is betting that 32-year-old Army intelligence officer Kel Gleason will be the 6-to-1 favorite to win the latest reality-based CBS series.

"Meanwhile, the Stardust hotel-casino lists Gleason as the 4-to-1 favorite to win the TV contest in the Australian outback.

"...Sports book managers say they favor Gleason to win because he's an outdoor enthusiast and he has a degree in communications.

"The odds...are only hypothetical because Nevada law prohibits wagers on events in which the outcome already is known, and CBS, unlike the oddsmakers, knows how this contest ends..."
