Bookies: England, Portugal Match Too Close to Call

UNITED KINGDOM – As reported by the UK Times Online: "England can move a step closer to European Championship glory by beating Portugal in their quarter-final in Lisbon on Thursday.

"Bookmakers believe that the fixture is a toss-of-a-coin job - most offer both teams at 5-6 to reach the semi-finals - but that is unlikely to be prevent in the region of £20 million being gambled on the match.

"Ladbrokes estimate that 80 per cent of that cash will be riding on England, who are generally 7-4 to win in normal time, and it is easy to understand why there is so much patriotic support.

"…Portugal, also around 7-4 to win in normal times, have had to qualify the hard way after losing 2-1 to Greece in their opening fixture. They have done well to bounce back from that, but were not overly impressive when beating Spain 1-0 in their latest fixture…"
