Bodog.com Offers World Cup Odds

29 June 2006

(PRESS RELEASE) -- After two weeks of preliminary matches, the field of 32 has been whittled in half, as the 2006 FIFA World Cup kicks off the round of 16 this weekend. As has been the case with all World Cup games to date, the Bodog.com Sportsbook is offering a variety of lines, futures and innovative player and team props covering all the action from Germany.

"The group stages of the World Cup provided some excellent play and compelling storylines," explained Bodog.com Founder and CEO Calvin Ayre. "We're excited to provide wagering options that align themselves with the world's biggest sporting event."

On Saturday, the host Germans will square off against Sweden, the second-place finisher in Group B. In the other Saturday game, Central America will battle South as Mexico takes on Argentina for a spot in the quarterfinals.

Sunday action includes what many perceive to be the marquee game of the round - Portugal versus the Netherlands. Both teams are ranked in FIFA's top-10 and looked dominant in advancing from their respective groups. In the morning affair, England will take on Ecuador, which has qualified for the second round for the first time in their history.

Monday features another team making its inaugural second-round appearance - Australia - which will take on Group D winners Italy, while Switzerland squares off against Ukraine in the second match.

Tuesday, a clash of soccer titans is set as Spain takes on France in the morning match, while in the afternoon Brazil faces World Cup debutant Ghana, in what promises to be a most exciting affair.
