Board Won't Block TAB Mergers

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: "The New South Wales Thoroughbred Racing Board indicated on Monday that it will not stand in the way of a proposed merger of the state's TAB Ltd. pari-mutuel betting service with UNITAB, the service for Queensland, South Australia, and the Northern Territory.

"The board also will not try to block the takeover attempt by TABCORP, Victoria's pari-mutuel service, of TAB Ltd., provided certain safeguards are met.

"Those provisions include that the governance of New South Wales racing is not compromised and that Sky Channel and Sydney radio station 2KY are divested to an approved independent business capable and committed to continuing the services in a manner acceptable to the state industry…"
