Blizzard Forces Race Cancellations in New Zealand8 July 2003NEW ZEALAND – As reported by the Thoroughbred Times: “The worst blizzard in 50 years roared up from the Antarctic and hit New Zealand over the weekend, causing races to be canceled but thus far no Thoroughbred studs have reported stock losses. “On Saturday, the first day of the Wellington Winter Carnival, jockeys voted overwhelmingly to call off the remainder of the Trentham card after four races. They said they were too numb with cold to be able to safely steer their mounts, although some owners and trainers opposed their decision…” |
