Big Flag Hotel Could Mark Gulf Coast4 August 2000BILOXI, MISSISSIPPI – August 4, 2000 – As reported by the Biloxi Sun Herald: "A major convention hotel near the Coast Coliseum and Convention Center could bring in more regional and national organizations to boost occupancy when tourism slows down. "Linda Hornsby, executive director of the Gulf Coast Hotel-Motel Association, said a `big flag' hotel, such as Hilton or Hyatt, would solidify the Coast's reputation as a convention destination and help extend the summer tourism season, which hits its peak in June and July. "…Gulfshores Inc., which owns the Holiday Inn Coliseum, is working with Atlantic Hotel Group, a Marietta, Ga.-based partnership, to build a four-star hotel with 400 to 450 rooms, sources familiar with the negotiations said this week. Gulfshores would sell or lease the Holiday Inn site to Atlantic, with the hotel chain providing the franchise and managing the facility. "Several hotel chains, including Hilton, are part of the negotiations.
