Big Casinos Grab Bulk of Gaming Profits20 July 2000DENVER, COLORADO -- July 20, 2000 – As reported by the Denver Post: "Historic preservationists and small-casino owners have complained that multimillion-dollar, Las Vegas-style casinos are not what Colorado voters wanted. But gamblers voting with their dollars say otherwise. "The state's casinos posted another record in June, with $52.8 million in profits, the highest since voter-approved limited-stakes gambling started in October 1991, according to statistics released by the Colorado Division of Gaming on Wednesday. "…Since the Isle of Capri casino opened in Black Hawk in December 1998, Rubino said Black Hawk has reported no less than 60 percent of the state's adjusted gross proceeds each month and frequently has approached 70 percent. The Isle of Capri, with 1,100 slot machines, 1,000 covered parking spaces and a 237-room hotel near completion, is the largest casino in the state..." |
