Bet24 now offering tax-free poker

26 January 2009

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Leading online casino and poker room has announced that it has become the latest site to obtain a European Union license after being accredited by the British overseas territory of Gibraltar.

For the last few years, European online poker players have not been required to pay tax on their winnings as long as the site they were competing on was licensed by a nation or territory within the European Union. Now poker players at can compete without having to pay tax on any takings, something they should find very attractive.

"It's a really important day for," said Chris Dahl, Poker Manager for

"We are one of a small number of poker operators to have been granted a European Union license in Gibraltar. Now all our products are licensed within the European Union. The requirements for obtaining a license are very strict so, of course, we have been looking forward to this day."

The Scandinavia-focused site revealed that tax has been a hot issue for some considerable time for Danish, Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish poker players and recently got even spicier. Danish professional poker player Peter Eastgate won the World Series Of Poker in Las Vegas in November and it has now been revealed that tax authorities in his home nation are looking into his $9.1 million first-place prize.

"Together with our poker supplier, Ongame Network, and the authorities in Gibraltar, we have found a solution so we are now officially a license holder in Gibraltar," said Dahl.

"We are very happy because now we can operate under the same conditions as the monopolies, at least as far as tax is concerned."
