Bermuda Authorities Raid Gambling Machine Operation25 October 2002BERMUDA – As reported by the Bermuda Sun: "Police and Customs swooped on five bars and clubs yesterday after discovering parts were being shipped into the island which could be used to convert video games into gambling machines. "Seventy officers were involved in the investigation which took in the Seamont Exclusive Club, on Collectors Hill and the Swinging Doors in Court Street. "…Government intends to stamp out the lucrative gambling machine business. In 2001 it passed a law making it illegal to import any new parts, the hope being the machines would die a natural death. But some machine owners appear to have found a loophole…" |
