Bell ExpressVu Launches i Lottery

3 February 2003

TORONTO, Canada --(Press Release)-- Bell ExpressVu has launched its fifth subscription-based interactive television (iTV) service, i Lottery. The new service, available immediately to ExpressVu subscribers with interactive set-top boxes, provides winning numbers for all National, Regional and Provincial Lotteries across Canada.

Bell ExpressVu partnered with leading iTV application developer ExtendMedia to provide strategic production services in conjunction with the launch and development of i Lottery for Bell ExpressVu's OpenTV environment.

"Bell ExpressVu is leading the iTV revolution in Canada," said Christine Robertson, Corporate Director of Customer Loyalty and iTV for Bell ExpressVu. "We want to transform the way viewers use their television to enhance their communications, information and entertainment. ExtendMedia's development skills are extensive, and they share with Bell ExpressVu a common vision of how interactive services will evolve."

Using their remote control, viewers access i Lottery through ExpressVu's television-based iTV LaunchPad on Channels 275 and 175, enabling access to all of its interactive services. In addition to providing winning numbers within 15 minutes of them being drawn, i Lottery allows subscribers to store their favourite lottery for quick access, and generate random numbers to help play the major lotteries. iLottery maintains the winning numbers for the last seven draws for each lottery. The new service is being provided to subscribers for a $0.50 monthly fee with subscribers getting the first 2 months at no charge. This pricing strategy has proven extremely successful for previously launched ExpressVu iTV services such as i Weather, i Trivia, i Horoscope and LudiTV games.
