BC Lottery: Victoria Not List of Possible Casino Cities

VICTORIA, British Columbia – As reported by the Victoria News: "Victoria councillors are getting closer in their effort to earmark a location where a casino can rise within the city in the future.

"But a spokesperson for the B.C. Lottery Corporation says councillors shouldn't get ahead of themselves, as the City of Victoria isn't on the radar screen as a possible casino site.

"`We're currently not considering a casino in the Victoria area,' [Roberta Kjelson, manager of public affairs for BCLC,] says.

"…Asked whether putting resources into planning the city's casino strategy is premature at this point, Victoria Mayor Alan Lowe says the city just wants to `be prepared'.

"…Last December, the BCLC selected Langley and Surrey as centres for relocating existing casinos. Last year four community casinos in the province -- three on the Lower Mainland and one in Prince George -- were declared eligible to relocate by the BCLC…"
