Bartender Sues Casino Over Makeup Row

SAN FRANCISCO, California – As reported by Reuters: “A female bartender who refused to wear makeup at a Reno, Nevada casino argued in papers filed with a federal appeals court on Monday that she was unfairly dismissed from her job.

“Darlene Jespersen, a 20-year veteran of the Harrah's Entertainment Inc. (NYSE:HET) casino in Reno, Nevada, objected to the company's policy that required female bartenders, but not men, to wear makeup.

“…The Lambda Legal Defense Fund, a gay rights group that is supporting Jespersen's suit, wrote that forcing female employees to have different standards than men was unlawful under rules, known as Title VII, against discrimination on race, color, religion, sex or national origin…”
