Barden Moves Closer to $1 Billion Goal16 January 2006DETROIT—As reported by Crain's Detroit Business News: "Two years ago, Detroit entrepreneur Don Barden predicted that his companies would generate $1 billion in annual revenue in five years. "Barden Cos. logged $372 million in 2004, and he estimates that will rise to nearly $500 million for 2005. "And with the purchase last month of a second casino boat in Gary, Ind., expansion plans at each of his five casinos across the country and a bid to build a 5,000-slot machine casino in downtown Pittsburgh, Barden may yet make his goal. "Sometime next year, Barden should learn whether his company will get the nod on a $375 million slots casino near Heinz Field in downtown Pittsburgh where he controls 17 acres of riverfront land. His competition for that single license includes the Pittsburgh Penguins hockey team, partnering with Capri Casinos Inc., and Forest City Enterprises of Cleveland, partnering with Harrah's Entertainment Inc. Barden is the only African-American competing for the license…" |
