Baptists Asks Churches to Oppose Oklahoma Lottery

McALESTER, Oklahoma – As reported by the Associated Press: "Baptist leaders in southeastern Oklahoma are asking church members to oppose Gov. Brad Henry's lottery proposal.

"A group representing nearly 8,000 Baptists is securing resolutions from church members to oppose the governor's lottery proposition and any other expansion of gambling.

"…Henry is asking for a statewide vote to approve a lottery to raise up to $300 million per year for education in Oklahoma.

"…`We really feel that this proposal is just like all of the other proposals that have been presented to try to change the social fabric of Oklahoma,' said Billy Hickman, director of missions for the Baptist association…"
