Bank Robbing Lawyer Sentenced18 February 2003CALIFORNIA – As reported by the Bay City Times: "A former Gaylord attorney who admittedly turned to bank robbery to pay off gambling debts will be sentenced next month in U.S. District Court in Bay City. "Michael A. Kenny, 38, now of Clarkston, pleaded guilty to one count of armed bank robbery in exchange for dismissal of two other bank-robbery counts. Government prosecutors say Kenny robbed three banks over the past three years - in Flint, Clio and Saginaw - of a total of $34,920 while armed with a dangerous weapon. "…Although federal prosecutors agreed to dismiss two other charges of armed robbery against Kenny, the agreement calls for Kenny to be sentenced as though he was convicted of all three counts. "…Kenny has agreed to repay the money he allegedly stole in all three robberies. "…court papers, Kenny reported he was earning $2,630 a month as an attorney. He also reported his checking account was nearly $1,000 in the red at the time of the robbery, and allegedly told investigators that a gambling addiction lead him to desperate measures to pay off debts…" |
