B.C City Approves Slot Machines at Track

SURREY, British Columbia: ``A six-year effort to bring slot machines to Fraser Downs racetrack hit the home stretch last night at Surrey council.

``Council approved a gaming committee recommendation to put 300 slots into the standardbred horse-racing facility.

``…The 6-1 council vote sets in motion a series of steps which could see coins jingling on site by September 2004.

``Fraser Downs has to come up with an architectural plan acceptable to Surrey and the B.C. Lottery Corp.

``…Part of the facility will be new and parts will be a renovation of the existing grandstand to provide about 30,000 square feet of space. The cost is pegged at $15 million to $30 million…"
