Aztar Names Robert M. Haddock President

14 May 2002

PHOENIX, Arizona – (Press Release) -- Aztar Corporation (NYSE: AZR) today announced that Robert M. Haddock has been elected by its board of directors to serve as president and chief financial officer. He had been executive vice president and chief financial officer. Paul E. Rubeli continues as chairman of the board and chief executive officer. Mr. Haddock will be responsible for development, financial and administrative matters and Mr. Rubeli will continue to be responsible for the company's operations and the recently commenced expansion of its Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

"We are pleased to recognize Bob's tremendous contributions to the company," Mr. Rubeli said in announcing the board action. "We know that his leadership will continue to contribute significantly to the company's performance and to the creation of shareholder value."

Mr. Haddock, 57, joined Aztar predecessor Ramada Inc. in 1980, becoming executive vice president and chief financial officer in 1987. He helped steer Ramada through a restructuring that resulted in the founding of Aztar in 1989, engineering the sale of two operating divisions and refinancing the corporation. In the formation of Aztar, he was named executive vice president and chief financial officer and elected to the board of directors. He subsequently spearheaded Aztar's development of its two riverboat casino properties in the Midwest and oversaw an extensive repositioning of the company's capital structure to make it one of the strongest in the industry. He is a graduate of Ford ham University and the University of Wisconsin, and holds JD and MBA degrees from Stanford University.

Aztar is a publicly traded company that operates Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Tropicana Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, Ramada Express Hotel and Casino in Laughlin, Nevada, Casino Aztar in Caruthersville, Missouri, and Casino Aztar in Evansville, Indiana.
