Aztar CEO Wants Coin Giveaway Axed28 April 2003ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey -- As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "Paul Rubeli is pre-emptively beating the drum regarding one of his favorite subjects: bus-coin giveaways. "The Aztar Corp. chief wants every Atlantic City casino to cut the cash incentive it gives to bus customers by $2 this summer. Rubeli fears a summer bus war as casinos fight to recover market share lost when the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa opens. "`It's our intention to try to do this, but there's a major-league steer in Atlantic City who's going to have to set the lead on that,' Rubeli said in a veiled reference to busing leader Bally's. "On another subject, Rubeli said Tropicana won't name the tenants of its $245 million retail, dining and entertainment complex until about September for competitive reasons. He first wants to see which tenants commit to the Borgata shops and The Walk. "Rubeli said the Tropicana project will open by March 31 of next year, up to a month later than originally planned, because bad winter weather caused construction delays..." |
