3 January 2001

NEW YORK –(Press Release) --Jan. 3, 2001 -- AUTOTOTE CORPORATION (Amex: TTE) announced that British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) has chosen Scientific Games International, an Autotote subsidiary, as its preferred vendor to upgrade its lottery central gaming system and related lottery support systems. The contract is initially worth approximately $8 million and the new system will be operational within 12-18 months.

Lorne Weil, Chairman and CEO of Autotote, said, ``The fact that we were chosen as the vendor is a testament to the quality of our lottery central gaming system and support services, in which we invest substantial resources to ensure they are the best available. We are very proud to have been selected as British Columbia's new supplier.''

Vic Poleschuk, BCLC President and CEO, said, ``SGI was selected as our preferred vendor for the lottery central gaming system after an extensive evaluation process by BCLC staff and independent consultants. SGI's proposal for a lottery central gaming system ranked technically higher and had the lowest cost, and was selected to meet our future needs.''
