Australia's Centrebet Unfazed by Chinese Gaming Sites Ban

AUSTRALIA – March 8, 2001 – As reported by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation: "Australia's largest online sports bookmaker, the Alice Springs-based Centrebet, says a possible Chinese Government move to ban access to foreign gaming sites is unlikely to affect its business.

"Media reports suggest Asian countries are increasingly turning to Australian sites to place bets, with Japan gambling $865 billion worldwide last year.

"Centrebet's Gerard Daffy says his business has less of a market share than online casinos.

"…`I don't think it'd make much affect at all because really in a lot of those countries betting is already illegal in the confines of that country,' he said…"
