Australian Tattersall Partners with UK Orbis6 December 2001LONDON--(Press Release)--Dec. 6, 2001--, an NDS Group plc company (NASDAQ/NASDAQ Europe: NNDS), and the world's leading provider of interactive betting technology, has been selected by Australian lottery operator, Tattersall's, to provide the technology and infrastructure to support its move into the online sports betting market. Tattersall's is the oldest private gaming operator in the English speaking world and is one of two operators in Australia with a state lottery licence. Tattersall's operates lotteries and gaming machines across Australia and its online site (www.tatts.com) provides lottery results, lottery ticket sales and interactive casino gaming. Using Orbis' OpenBet Interactive Gambling System (used by three quarters of the UK's online bookmakers) the Tattersall's site will now provide sports betting too. John Mortimore, General Manager at Tattersall's explains the decision: ``We're seeing a huge growth in demand for online sports betting, and wanted to provide our users, who already enjoy an occasional flutter at the virtual roulette wheel with this additional facility. It wasn't hard to make the selection as to who should take us into this new arena. The UK leads the world right now in terms of interactive sports betting, and Orbis is acknowledged as the No1 player in this market. At Tattersall's we promote a responsible attitude to gaming and we know that Orbis share this philosophy too - and this was very important to us.'' Charles Malir, Marketing Director at Orbis comments: ``This partnership is a significant one for Orbis - creating our first customer in the Southern Hemisphere. As the largest private organization in Australia and a household name in the gaming world we believe that Tattersall's will become the number one sports betting site in Australia.'' |
