Australian State to Review Gaming Duopoly19 July 2001AUSTRALIA –– As reported by the Australian Associated Press: "The Victorian government will review the gaming duopoly held by Tattersall's and Tabcorp in line with recommendations of a national competition policy report released today. "Gaming Minister John Pandazopoulos said the government had accepted a report by consulting economists Marsden Jacob Associates that recommended competition be increased in the gaming industry. "…Mr Pandazopoulos said the government supported greater competition in the gaming industry but was prohibited from introducing new gaming providers under terms of gaming licences that expire in 2012. "The minister said the government was committed to honouring the terms of those licences. "…Mr Pandazopoulos said the government would review the duopoly closer to the expiry of the licences. "The principal findings of the Marsden report include: "The duopoly with Tattersall's and Tabcorp is uncompetitive and the government should undertake a review before the 2012 licence expiry.
