Australian Rider Tells of Abuse7 February 2001AUSTRALIA – Feb. 7, 2001 – As reported by the Daily Racing Form: "A retired female jockey in Australia has sparked an examination of possible sexual abuse in racing after saying she was forced out of the game 23 years ago because she was raped and sexually harassed. "Valerie Kost, a pioneering Australian rider, said she was raped and harassed by as many as 19 men and youths from the time she entered the racing industry - when she was 13 - until the time she retired at 22. "…The Thoroughbred Racing Board of New South Wales issued a statement immediately following Kost's speech saying that it had received a `minimal amount' of complaints about sexual harassment…" |
