Australian Pokie Freeze Extended26 May 2003AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Australian Advertiser: "Laws banning an increase in the number of poker machines for another 12 months were passed in Parliament last night. "There are now 14,931 in 599 hotels and clubs in South Australia, with gambling turnover approaching $660 million a year. "No Pokies MLC Nick Xenophon said the extended freeze was welcome, but there had been no progress in efforts to `wind back problem gambling' since the freeze began in late 2000.
