Australian Net Security Firms Join Forces

30 September 2000

Two of the top Australian Internet security providers, SecureNet Ltd and eSign Australia Ltd, have joined in an alliance aimed at linking their products and then marketing them aggressively both at home and abroad.

SecureNet develops smart card and security server technologies, while eSign provides digital certification services. An interoperable system will provide digital certificates on smart cards to end users.

The companies will mesh their products into an end-to-end service that meets Australian Government requirements. Internet security products awarded Gatekeeper accreditation by the Federal Government can be used by government agencies for government transactions with businesses and consumers.

This is a big source of business for both companies, with government agencies under pressure to move their services securely online.

ESign, the Australian provider of Verisign services, already has Gatekeeper accreditation, while SecureNet is in the process of gaining accreditation for its TrustedNet MULTOS smart card and server based security products.

"This alliance gives us a credible, end-to-end, government certified offering," said Gregg Rowley, managing director of eSign.

SecureNet can be found on the Web, at www.securenet.com.au, while eSign Australian is at www.esign.com.au.
