Australian Machine Makers Challenge Board Decision

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Gambling machine makers have challenged a decision to reject new pokie features offering bigger wins and more free games, saying it could end up taking the enjoyment out of playing.

"The Liquor Administration Board refused the changes last year because it felt they might induce people to gamble irresponsibly.

"…The disputed features are:

"Advertising winnable amounts that exceed the legal maximum $10,000 win

"Increasing the number of free games offered from 25 to 100;

"Providing a proportionally larger payout for a larger bet, promoted under the `bet more to win more' slogan.

"…Manufacturers had also challenged the board's authority to include concerns about harm minimisation in rulings on poker machine features from "a technical legal perspective", he said.

"…But Andrew Scott, president of the Responsible Gaming Association, which represents gamblers, said the changes were not attractive to players…"
