Australian Govt Agency Outlaws 93 Web Sites5 September 2000AUSTRALIA –Sept. 5, 2000 – As reported by Computer Daily News: "The Australian Government's controversial Internet censorship regime has prohibited Web content in 93 cases out of 201 complaints in its first six months of operation, IT and Communications Minister Richard Alston revealed on Tuesday. "…Some 80 percent of the prohibited content hosted in Australia involved depiction of children or minors in an offensive way, including paedophile activity, he said. "Alston said the Australian Broadcasting Authority, a government agency, had investigated 197 of the 201 complaints received. Of 160 completed cases the content was prohibited or "potentially prohibited" in 93 cases…" |
