Australian Gaming Minister Appointed New Chief of Staff7 April 2003AUSTRALIA – As reported by the (Australia) Sunday Herald Sun: "Victoria's top ALP official has been given a $100,000 (US$59,735) government job. "Party president Jim Claven, a former postal union industrial officer, has been appointed chief of staff to Gaming Minister John Pandazopoulos. "The failed Labor candidate will play a key role in framing sensitive gaming policies. "Mr Claven will be involved in government decisions affecting Tabcorp and Tattersall's. At the same time, his ALP fundraising role will see him seeking political donations from various corporations, raising conflict of interest concerns. "…Tabcorp and Tattersall's have confirmed with the Sunday Herald Sun that they attend party fundraisers. "…While Mr Claven's position as ALP State President is unpaid, he will earn in excess of $100,000 a year as Mr Pandazopoulos's chief of staff…" |
