Australian Gaming Machines Should Display Dollars, Not Credits, Official Says

7 April 2001

AUSTRALIA – April 7, 2001 –As reported by the Australian Age: "All gaming machines in Australia should be redesigned to show gamblers their progress in dollars and cents instead of credits, Victorian Gaming Minister John Pandazopoulos said yesterday.

"…He said that public forums held across the state showed there was support for the measure and that Victoria was leading the nation in regulating gambling.

"`We believe that players need access to information so that they can appropriate decisions about how much they gamble and when they should walk away,' he told parliament.

"…The Victorian Government's responsible-gaming legislation includes a regional cap on machine numbers, bans 24-hour venues in the country and limits those in the city."
