Australian Gaming Industry Going Global23 August 2005SYDNEY, Australia -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Australia's position as a global leader in the gaming and hospitality industry was demonstrated today as the world's best gaming companies and thousands of industry delegates assembled in Sydney for the 15th annual Australasian Gaming Expo. Expo organiser and Executive Officer of the Australasian Gaming Machine Manufacturers Association (AGMMA), Ross Ferrar, said the level of global interest in the event demonstrated Australia's increasing significance in international markets. "The 2005 Expo includes 750 gaming machines and 20 gaming tables. It also features conference sessions with leading international gaming and hospitality representatives and exhibitors from countries including Austria, Malaysia, France, New Zealand, Canada, Ukraine, Korea, Italy and the United States," Mr Ferrar said. "Leading Australian manufacturers are having an impact in emerging international gaming markets such as the United States, Asia, Russia, and South Africa. "This has had a positive effect on exports, with millions of dollars worth of Australian machines being sold abroad." Mr Ferrar said Australian gaming machine manufacturers were recognised for producing among the most innovative and technologically advanced machines in the world. "Australian gaming companies are investing a total of more than $73 million annually in research and development. "Australian manufacturers are employing highly qualified technicians with around 3000 people working in gaming machine manufacturing in Australia, with one sixth of these in research and development roles."
