Australian Football League Manager Stole $374,000 to Feed Gambling Addiction

AUSTRALIA -- As reported by the (Australian) Herald Sun: "A talented AFL (Australian Football League) staffer who plundered $374,000 ($US193,000) from her department to feed a gambling addiction yesterday admitted her crimes.

"Sacked AFL membership manager Tracey Ann Henderson, 32, pleaded guilty in Melbourne Magistrates' Court to 48 charges over a nine-month campaign of deception.

"Ms Henderson was a regular in the Mahogany Room at Crown casino, where she allegedly gambled away up to $10,000 a day.

"…In the 2000 AFL season, Ms Henderson siphoned the money using fake invoices and cheques made payable to cash, which were signed off by unsuspecting senior staff.

"She was sacked in January last year after an AFL audit, having spent less than a year in the plum membership manager's job, in charge of a department with an annual turnover of $15 million.

"…It is believed she had been under pressure to pay back casino loan sharks…'
