Australian Firm Offers Mobile Betting System

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Sydney Morning Herald: “If you fancy a flutter but cannot get to the bookmaker, if you own a fairly new mobile phone you can place a bet wherever you are and even watch the odds change as the event unfolds.

“An internet sports betting firm, SportOdds, is among the first to offer such a system in Australia, and says it is in talks with the main mobile phone companies.

“…`Phone companies see it as one of the new and exciting services that will be key drivers in selling more new handsets,’ SportOdds' marketing manager, Mick Robbins, said.

“…Until the soft launch of the M-bet mobile phone service two months ago, about 90 per cent of SportOdds bets were placed via the internet, but now some clients have switched almost entirely to phones, Mr Robbins said.

“…While casino-style gambling is banned in Australia, online betting on sports events is legal, under licence. The same legislation will cover mobile phones…”
