Australian Expert: Gambling Programs Not Working27 November 2001AUSTRALIA – Nov. 27, 2001 –As reported by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation: "The head of Psychology at Sydney's Westmead Hospital says many programs to help problem gamblers are well intentioned but do not hit the mark. "…Professor Alex Blaszczynski says there needs to be research commissioned into the effectiveness of some gaming programs, otherwise the New South Wales Government, industry and welfare organisations may be wasting their money. "`What we need is increased consultation between the gaming industry, the Government, and researchers and welfare organisations to work out a strategic plan, which over the long term systematically evaluates all these particular proposed interventions before they're implemented,' he said." |
