Australian Commission Delivers Policy Paper

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Canberra Times: "THE A.C.T. Gambling and Racing Commission has delivered a comprehensive policy paper to restructure the administration of electronic gaming in Canberra and to put poker machines out of the reach of hotels and taverns.

"The commission, under its chairman John Broome, has established a clear framework that would see poker machines available only to not-for-profit organisations.

"It is a bitter blow for hotels and taverns, which have lobbied for decades to have equality with the clubs.

"If the ACT Government backs this recommendation, it sets the ACT apart from NSW, where poker machines are now bleeping in every corner of almost every pub in the state…"
