Australian Casinos, Tracks Push for Internet Gambling

AUSTRALIA – As reported by the Australia Herald Sun: "Casino barons and the racing industry are expected to urge the Federal Government to amend its Internet gambling laws in a review due in a few months.

"The Australian Casino Association is expected to push for the right to offer online gaming to Australian gamblers.

"Under the laws introduced in 2001, local cyber casinos must deal only with foreign gamblers.

"…The racing industry, exempted from the laws, is expected to push for this to continue, along with a ban on overseas Internet bookmakers fielding on Australian races.

"Australian Racing Board chief executive Andrew Harding said offshore betting sites were taking bets on local races but paying no turnover tax to the local industry…"
